A jewel of the Costa Brava: Cap de Creus Natural Park

Costa Brava hides some of the most spectacular landscapes that you can see. We definitely can guarantee that its towns, beaches and its mountains have become one of the best places to visit in Catalonia. Among all these sites, the Cap de Creus Natural Park stands out, a jewel of the Costa Brava that we will discover below.

Cap de Creus: how to get there from Barcelona or Girona

Firstly, we would like to start this article by explaining how to arrive at Cap de Creus from Barcelona or Girona. It is important to mention that regardless of where you come from, the best way to access any town on the Costa Brava and especially Cap de Creus, is by car as this will allow you to have absolute independence.

From Barcelona, you must go through Cadaqués and from there follow the directions for the lighthouse and Cap de Creus. This way you will do it through a narrow winding road but with a lot of charm.

The best routes through the Cap de Creus natural park

Cap de Creus is the place where the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean come together creating an exceptional landscape thanks to the combination of land and sea. The first maritime terrestrial park in Catalonia, the Cap de Creus Natural Park has an area of 13,500 hectares and therefore there are a large number of routes that you can take through it. In addition, within the land area, the Cap de Creus Natural Park has three natural sites of national interest: Cap-Gros Cap de Creus, Punta Falconera in Cap Norfeu and the Sierra de Rodes area.

From Cadaqués to Cap de Creus

The first route we want to mention is possibly one of the best known as we are referring to the path from Cadaqués to Cap de Creus. It is important to mention that even though this is a long hiking trail, you will be able to enjoy one of the most beautiful places.

If you are going to do this route, you should go to Port Lligat (where you can find Salvador Dalí House Museum), passing through one of its most beautiful beaches and reaching the path that will take you to the lighthouse.

Paratge de Tudela

Another interesting route that we can do in this area is and also considered for most of the local people as the best one, is the Paratge de Tudela. This area is undoubtedly one of the most special in the park since it is a place that has been formed by the erosion of water and the north wind.

It is important to mention that the Paratge de Tudela also has different routes so you can travel multiple different paths, all of them spectacular.

Cap de Creus lighthouse: the most eastern point of the Iberian Peninsula

Another essential visit you must do in Cap de Creus is to get to its lighthouse. This is located within the Natural Park, in the most eastern place of the Iberian Peninsula. It is considered the second oldest lighthouse in Catalonia and from there, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the entire Costa Brava as you can see the rocky area and the Mediterranean Sea.

The best “calas” of the Cap de Creus Natural Park

To end this article, we consider it necessary to comment on some of the best calas that you can find along the Cap de Creus Natural Park.

calas cap de creus

Cala Prona

The first one we want to mention is Cala Prona, and this is undoubtedly one of the best-known cala in Cap de Creus for being an authentic wonder. Cala Prona is usually frequented by sailors and fishermen.

Cala Fredosa

Another amazing cala that you cannot miss if you visit Cap de Creus is Cala Fredosa. This is located under the lighthouse and due to its location, it is the beach that receives the first ray of sunlight. To access it, you must walk from the lighthouse and it is a path that lasts approximately 10 minutes.

Cala Jugadora

The last cala that we want to mention in this article is Cala Jugadora. This beach stands out for being located in a spectacular natural environment and above all, for being a place where you can spend a very quiet day.
